A community story that will make you smile!
Are you “looking for the helpers?”
Every cloud has its silver lining. Every moment of test is an opportunity for testimony.
In America, we always seem to pull together in the trials.
It’s the kind of country where you find people like Fred Rogers, who built a children’s programming legacy on love and kindness.
And it is in times like these the cream rises to the top.
Like so many people, I found out about someone who became a remote employee literally overnight. This person was completely unprepared and had an immediate need to set up a home office.
I reached out to several people in a quick search for a desk, chair, and filing cabinet. I received several quotes and all were reasonable.
But I never expected a reply from one colleague who sent a variety of pictures with the message,
“Attached is a PDF of furniture we have recently acquired that we would like to liquidate for the cost of delivery and installation as discussed in my phone call earlier today. Our goal is to keep our guys busy and to bless people with needs for their companies. If you have a need for any of these items, please email us back which you have an interest in. Where you need them delivered. We will give them to you and only charge for delivery and installation.”
I smiled too. My heart was warmed. I was instantly reminded of why I went into business nearly 15 years ago – to serve my community.
There is a famous quote from Mr. Rogers,
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
When we join together to help each other, we don’t have to look very far to find “the helpers.” When we care more about the relationships than the transactions, lives are changed. When we act out of love and kindness for each other, we get to “be the helper.”
I hope you are as inspired by this story as I am.
I am sharing this with you as a moment to warm your heart and make you smile. And I am sharing it as a challenge:
